Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA)

Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA): an area that consists of at least one urbanized area of 50,000 people or more, and includes the adjacent communities and counties that have a high degree of integration with that urbanized area.

The general concept of a metropolitan statistical area is that of an area containing a large population nucleus and adjacent communities that have a high degree of integration with that nucleus.
